Tiny Job

Posting a small job? How to find someone

The cupboard is still in its box, the hedge keeps growing and your website needs an update. You don't call a company for an hour's work. This is how to describe the job, pick a price and know where to post it.

How to describe a small job

The clearer the job, the sooner someone says yes. Put this in:

Vague

Help wanted in the garden.

How big? Where? When? Anyone reading this has to ask three questions first. Most people just scroll on.

Clear

Trim a ten-metre hedge in Utrecht-Oost and take the cuttings away. Ladder and hedge trimmer are here. About four hours, ideally on a Saturday.

  • What needs doing, exactly. Not "help in the garden" but "trim a ten-metre hedge and take the cuttings away".

  • Where and when. Put your town or area in the text, and whether it has to be a set day.

  • Roughly how long it takes. A guess is enough. It helps the other person decide, and you set a price.

  • What's already there. Tools, a ladder, the manual. Or not, so they know what to bring.

  • Plain words. Use the words someone would search for: garden, moving, translation.

What do you pay for a small job?

You agree that yourselves. A few rules of thumb:

When is Werkspot the better place?

Tiny Job is for small jobs between people. For some jobs you want someone with a trade, a business and reviews. In the Netherlands that's Werkspot.

What to look at Tiny Job Werkspot
For Small jobs, no diploma needed Trade work: plumbing, electrics, renovation
Who replies Anyone with an account Tradespeople with a business
Reviews Not yet From earlier customers
The price What you agree together A quote from the tradesperson
Does it cost anything? No, free Posting is free

Not sure? If you'd want an invoice and a guarantee, it's trade work. If your handy nephew could do it, it's a small job.

Looking for a babysitter or care for someone? Choose an agency that checks people. Tiny Job checks nobody, and for children and care that isn't enough.

Posting a job on Tiny Job

You post the job with a description, the skills, an hourly rate or a total and an end date. Whoever wants to do it sends you a message through the site. It arrives in your email with the sender's address, so you can just reply. Your own address is nowhere on the site. Once the job is taken, you mark it "taken".

Rather look yourself? People lists people with their skills, and you can message them too.

To be fair: Tiny Job only opens once enough people are on the list, jobs don't have a place field yet and the screens are in English. Look around the demo, or join the list and I'll email you when you can post your first job.

Questions

How long does a job stay up?

Until the end date you choose, at most a year ahead. Once it has ended, you can give it a new date.

What if nobody replies?

Make the description more concrete, check your price against similar jobs, or ask someone on People directly.

How does payment work?

Between the two of you. Tiny Job never sees the money and takes no cut. Agree up front what it costs and how you pay, for example a bank transfer or payment request once the job is done.

Do I know who I'm dealing with?

Not beforehand. Tiny Job checks nobody and has no reviews yet. Email back and forth first, ask what they did before, and start with a small job.

How do I get in touch?

Through the message form on a job or a person. It goes by e-mail, with your address so they can reply. Nobody's address is on the site itself.

What does it cost?

Nothing. Tiny Job is free. What a job pays, you agree with the other person yourselves.
